The ZoneTM Diet
Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, this diet is based on balancing your
blood sugar. According to The Zone web site, "the more insulin you
produce the fatter you become." Your body produces insulin to regulate
your blood sugar. The Zone diet looks primarily at a ratio of protein
and "good" carbohydrates within limits to promote weight loss.
However, questions have been raised about the relationship between
insulin and weight change.
Insulin is the way your body reacts to an increase in blood sugar, and most
studies show that in cases of obesity, there is an increase in insulin
imbalances. Regardless of the science behind The Zone diet, it seems
that by focusing on eliminating "bad" carbohydrates and reducing calories
is the cause of the effectiveness. The emphasis on exercise is
light, and is this a lifestyle change or a diet?
